The Flood

I don’t know if you heard, but Nashville FLOODED last weekend.

FLOODED with a capital FLOODED.

Yes, I’m fine.  So is all my stuff and basically everybody I know.  Thank you for asking.  The biggest effect this whole thing has had on me personally has been super backed up traffic because a lane of the interstate I drive down every day to work is basically crumbling away.

They’re calling it “erosion.”  Because they’re super technical and fancy.

I call it A Week A Go A Building (Yes, Literally, A Building) Was Floating Down This Very Spot So Who Is Surprised That Things Are Now Falling Apart?

It’s been insane.  Last year, a huge tornado came through my town and tore up big parts of it and killed more than half of a young family.  This year, a big flood came in and took out some of the best parts of music city (The Grand Ole Opry is now a traveling show, more or less) and killed, last time I heard, 11 people.  And counting.

That “And Counting” is the worst part.  Not all of the water has receded.  We have no idea what will be found once it does.  Whose family is still wondering?  Still hoping?

The best part is, I live in a community where when something tragic and disastrous happens, Taylor Swift will decide she can afford to lay down half a million dollars to aid the recovery.

So what I’m really here to say, or to ask, I guess, is

How did I get so damn lucky?

Tragedies or not, I don’t think I could have picked a better place to make my home.

i’m so glad that you’re ok, really. i have been living under a rock where no news gets to me (nor do i really search it out) but i’m glad YOU are ok.

sometimes i wish i had the kind of money that taylor does so that i could actually make some kind of difference like that. i guess i just have to keep doing what i’m doing, though, and know that my day will come when i can make that difference. maybe not drop 500 g’s on a dime, but do something that helps people out.

Oh boy…that is scary. I’m so glad that you’re safe, but so sad for the people who are experiencing major devastation after all this. I will definitely keep the whole city in my prayers!

Indeed. I’ve traveled pretty extensively in my short lifetime, and I can honestly say that even though I’ve been to some AMAZING places, at the end of the day I’m always glad to call Nashville home. This whole thing kind of proves why…

And wasn’t that insane about the building floating down the interstate? D and I watched it live, and I have to say it’s probably the craziest thing I’ve ever seen live. THAT was reality tv.
